Tuesday night marks an important night in Canadian television, after eleven strong episodes, CBC's Being Erica ends it second season. It's important because, the cult-hit still has not been renewed for a third season, so there is a chance that this could very well be the series finale for the little show that could!
Calm down, I have a feeling the show will be back, the negative press CBC would suffer from wouldn't be worth it. Remember the whole Hockey Night in Canada fiasco? But I'm just trying to prepare you. It will also depend on how the network's new Winter shows, Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town, 18-to-Life and Republic of Doyle, do in the ratings.
But what about Tuesday night's finale? When comparing episodes of Being Erica, its hard to top last season's final epside, Leo. With the duel story lines of the time-traveling Erica trying to save her dead brother and the firing of Dr. Tom, series creator Jana Sinyor, left the show's audience speechless. And I can tell you that this season's finale is no different.
When the episode shows up in my mailbox a couple of days, I was sworn to secrecy. With CBC's threat of revealing pictures of me with hair, I can only tell you so much.
Things you should expect:
- Someone leaves, and I don't think they are coming back. Some people will be happy, others not so much!
- Someone comes back! And yes, this is the secret that Erin Karpluk told me back in September, and it's been killing me trying to keep my mouth shut since then! And no it's not Leo. Do you know what? Screw it! It's Cassidy (Anna Silk)! You remember her as Erica's lesbian friend from last season! Shit, I'm going to get in so much trouble. Ahhh well, here is a picture to prove it!
- Haven't heard Kai's song, Alien Like You enough? You're in luck. You get to here it again, but in a completely new way! (Don't forget, you can download the original for free!)
- Remember that movie Labyrinth with Jennifer Connolley and David Bowie? Fans of that film will love the show's final scenes.
- In the episode, there are no sign of Erica's dad, Jenny, Sam, Josh or Brent.
Then there are the show's last five minutes. Wow. You guys will love it. I know you will. I can't help but wonder if the scenes dark tones and colours are foreshadowing of what is to come. If the show does come back, Being Erica will have re-invented itself yet again. In world full of copycats, I truly believe this show is the closest thing to LOST we've seen yet. And if for some reason the show doesn't come back. I think fans will be annoyed with such a big cliffhanger, but hopefully know that Erica, just like the rest of us, will be okay.
The season finale of Being Erica airs on Tuesday night. If you are a casual fan, tonight will be the night to watch. Let's get those numbers up there!!!

Very excited for tomorrow night's finale. Outside of my obligatory duty as a Canadian to watch DEGRASSI, BEING ERICA is the first CBC show I think I've ever watched in its entirety. Which is nice, considering my tax dollars paid for it.
If they cancel this show I will LOSE MY MIND!!
Heck, I still don't understand the first season finale. Why didn't Erica prefer the reality where she was successful and Leo didn't die in the fire (but in a car crash years later)? Leo died in both cases, but she was a success in the alternate reality yet she still wanted it undone. I just don't get it. :/

just remember the CBC cancelled "Intelligence". An amazing complex drama about a drug dealing informant. Suffice to say CBC brass are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. I just watched Eric season two finale and thought it was really interesting. Not the mind%#$& that season one's finale was (one of the best hours in Canadian television...) but this season's was sure thought provoking. They could end it here, but I will be disappointed. I wonder if Erica will come back as a therapist!

A great show. I certainly hope that CBC considers the originality and ingenuity demonstrated in this show before they take the axe to it. It would be a shame to cancel it just as it is finding its legs.
I love the series, but I got to say I completely disagree with everyone about the season finale. They tried to cram too much drama into one episode, and ended up making Erica look like a helpless, melodramatic fool in the process.

Really great episode to finish off the second season! I have to say though, it was inevitably coming that Ethan and Erika's relationship would come to an end. Does that mean that we won't see Tyron Leitso any longer?

I think season 2 ended gracefully. Despite my disappointment that Erica broke up with Ethan, I agree that it's a reasonable choice, given her background in feminism. Erica definitely won't tolerate following the man's wish and let go her own dream. In the ending Erica is back to where she was in the beginning of the story: no job, no boyfriend. The only difference is that this time she is strangely okay. I think it's a perfect ending for the whole story. A good show should know when and where to draw the curtain.
I LOVED the parallel of the start of the series - no job, no boyfriend, lots of unknowns - with the finale of the second season and that somehow, the "same" situation could look so different.
It DOES make me worry though, that it was a little TOO nicely wrapped up.. I want a third season!! C'mon CBC - don't let us down! This show is great =) Crossing my fingers...

However, the way the episode ended, I think it all wrapped up nicely. I mean, wouldn't it be better to end with Erica walking through that door and all of the fans can create what her life becomes rather than an inevitable let down of what the writers want for her life...this is where the audience is suppose to use their own creative minds to conjure up a life WE want for the character. We can see a little of ourselves in Erica.
So although I want this series to continue indefinitely, it really did end on a high note for me.
I actually found the last two episodes to be the best of Season 2.
On a side note, I'm happy to see that there is such a following - Canadian television can be good! who knew?!

I've became Being-Erica-addict. The season finale was great, though I have this nostalgic feeling of the original chemistry between Ethan and Erica. Of course, for them to be together again should be necessary some brave and bold Ethan's movement tryng to bring her desire back (difficult since his carachter has became quite dull). A delicious show. I hope numbers make CBS do more.

Such a great final episode, and I agree with what others have said about the conclusion and the parallels with the beginning of the show. Still, if there isn't another season, I'll be so disappointed!!! This show is also the only cbc show I've ever watched in its entirety!
I have to admit that I'm really sad about Ethan, though. Why did he have to become such a conservative jerk, totally unable to compromise on his wishes, so stagnant, unwilling to change? It's hard to believe he's the same person we met in the first season. Is it wishful thinking to hope he'll be back next season to prove to Erica that he can change?
When I watched the season premiere of the series. I know within a minutes that I'm gonna love what will be ahead. And I loved it oh-so-much!
It wasnt much of a surprise that the show got renewed for a second season. But indeed a shock that they havnt yet renewed for a third season.
This is one show that touches/changes you in such a way like any other!
This show deserves a 3rd season and then some!
Cos after giving Erica almost a blank slate, and as someone said, the situation similar to series premiere but yet so beautifully different, they cant deprive the viewers of the magic and emotions that unfold our screens!

This is such a wonderful show, I really, really hope it is renewed for a third season. I thought the last two episodes were the absolute best of the whole series and I would LOVE to see more.

God I wish I lived in Canada because:
1. I would be able to watch Being Erica on tv on the hour it is released (instead of waiting a whole fricking day for the internet)
2. I would help raise the ratings and hopefully keep my fave show around ^^
3. I went to Canada and I loved the maple syrup popcorn. Could live off that stuff.
I hope there is a season 3 i live in the uk and there only on season 1 over here so i watch it online but its a great show i like how erica picked the door that was right in front of her the whole time.

ahhh i just finished watching the season finale (they haven't even aired season 2 in the states yet...i was just super impatient and found, um, other means of obtaining the episodes), and i just HOPE they bring it back! i already can't wait to find out what happens!!

I love, love, LOVE it!! However, it is much clearer and well-developed than Lost so far. Can't wait for season 3, where Erica will hopefully be Dr. Erica for real. She deserves it, does she not? :-)
